    Seamless Pipes

    What is a Seamless Pipe?

A seamless pipe is a tube without any seam or weld joint. It is thus stronger and more reliable than the welded version. The pipes are manufactured from a solid billet of metal. It is heated and then pushed or pulled into shape to form a hollow tube. The seamless nature of these pipes makes them suitable for high-pressure, high-temperature, and highly corrosive environments.

    Manufacturing Process of Seamless Pipes

The manufacturing process of seamless steel pipes starts with casting raw steel into a workable format, usually in the form of a hot solid billet. This billet is then stretched, and through various stages of extrusion and molding, it is shaped into a pipe without welding. This guarantees the absence of weak spots often found at weld seams, one of the reasons seamless pipes are preferred in high-performance applications.
Seamless steel pipes are submitted to heat treatment to ensure durability and quality for specific strength resistance standards. These pipes are ensured to be taken from NORSOK M650-approved manufacturers supplying only Duplex and Super Duplex seamless pipes at SPM.

    Applications of Seamless Pipes

High-quality seamless pipes are versatile and have applications in various industries which include:

    • Oil and Gas Industry: These pipes are used to transport crude oil, natural gas, and other fluids.
    • Power Plants: Top-grade seamless steel pipes are used in heat exchangers and high-temperature systems.
    • Automotive: Required for structural parts that face stress and high forces.

    Advantages of Seamless Pipes

Seamless pipes have numerous advantages, making them a popular choice in severe applications.

    1. Strength

The first advantage of seamless steel pipes is their inherent strength. There is no seam to weld, so the pipe is less prone to stress and can withstand higher pressures.

    2. Corrosion Resistance

The lack of seam reduces the chances of any impurity or defect, hence seamless pipes offer much greater resistance to corrosion, especially in more aggressive environments like an offshore oil rig or a chemical plant.

    3. Lower Integrity Test Requirements

There is less need for integrity tests for seamless pipes because there is no weak point at which the pipe may break. Seamless pipes are therefore a bit more reliable in long-term applications.

Quality Assurance: Up to International Standards

Hatco considers quality and reliability paramount. Seamless pipe suppliers ensure that piping material complies with internationally established standards including but not limited to the:
