Flanges
What Are Pipe Flanges?
A flange is a mechanical component used to connect pipes, valves, pumps, and other equipment to form a complete piping system. It consists of a circular piece of metal with holes for bolts, which are used to fasten it securely to another pipe or equipment. Flanges can be either welded or screwed into place and are an essential part of any system requiring high-pressure or leak-proof connections.
Types of Pipe Flanges
1. Weld Neck Flanges
Among the most popular kinds of high-quality flanges are Weld Neck Flanges, known as high-hub or tapered hub flanges, which offer more strength and toughness.
2. Slip-On Flanges
Slip-on flanges are designed in a way to slide upon the pipe and it is then welded from inside as well as outside. It is highly suitable for low-pressure applications.
3. Blank Flanges
A Blank stainless steel flange is used on the end of a pipe, or nozzle in a position when it is to be out-of-service. It could be either flat-faced or RF.
4. Lap Joint Flanges
Lap Joint Flanges consist of two parts, one being the stub end, welded to the pipe, while the other part is the backing flange which revolves freely about the stub end.
5. Ring-Type Joint (RTJ)
RTJ flanges create a metal-to-metal seal using a steel ring gasket in grooves cut into the flange face, highly effective for high-pressure systems where a tight, leak-proof seal is necessary.
Applications of High-Quality Flanges
Pipe flanges; whether you prefer the extensive range of a stainless steel flange or carbon steel flanges, are applied in a variety of applications. These include:
- Oil and Gas: For safe connections in high-pressure and extreme-temperature applications.
- Chemical Processing: For safe connections of pipes, valves, and vessels carrying corrosive substances.
- Petrochemical and Refining: To ensure the integrity of systems for handling high-pressure or high-temperature fluids.
Advantages of Flanges
1. High-Pressure Applications:
These flanges offer top-grade performance when employed in high-pressure and critical conditions. These are usually used in very stressed and vibrating systems.
2. Easy Inspections:
They are easy to assemble and permitted to be opened and exposed for internal inspection and cleaning.
3. Performance:
Flanges are ideally suitable for severe conditions such as high temperatures and pressures.
